Performance, duration 30 min
offset test sheets from printing Mother’s Milk, stainless steel self-made shredder
Archive event VII – Honeycombing, Looiersgracht 60, Amsterdam – 2023
To launch her new artist book Mother’s Milk, Marie Ilse Bourlanges co-developed with Elena Khurtova the seventh edition of Archive event at Looiersgracht 60 under the title Honeycombing. In archival terminologies, the term ‘honeycombing’ refers to a technique of leaving open spaces in storage shelving to allow for additions to existing collections.
Bourlanges’ new performance voices selected excerpts of her book to bring together the fragmented narrative of Ilse. The reading is performed following principles inspired by EMDR, a form of therapy to treat post traumatic stress disorder.
The performance was followed by a conversation between the author, graphic designer Alix Chauvet and editor Marta Pagliuca Pellacani, with an introduction speech by publisher Eleonoor Jap Sam.
